Controversial Goal Sends France to World Cup

Today, France faced Ireland for a spot in the 2010 World Cup finals. France needed only a tie to advance – a feat that they would eventually achieve in the 104th minute of the game. France scored the equalizer in controversial fashion, with their star striker, Thierry Henry, saving the ball with his hand before feeding it to a teammate for the goal. Though France was also offsides on the same play, the referees failed to correct either call, thus allowing the goal to stand and France to advance. One can only imagine the emotions of the Irish team – and their country. Just think of all the lost profits that beer companies will face due to the fact that the Irish will not be able to cheer on their team next summer!
